Are you ready for an adventure that will warm your heart, broaden your horizons and provide you with amazing memories? With our Women’s Empowerment Project in Morocco, you’ll not only immerse yourself in the stunning local culture, but also help support local women and girls in chasing their dreams.
Your Work Base? The beautiful city of Rabat (or one of the vibrant nearby towns). Your day kicks off with breakfast at your host family’s home, then you’re off to work with a local team and maybe a few fellow volunteers.
Mornings: Teaching and brainstorming new ideas.
Afternoons: More activities, inspiration, laughter and learning.
After 4 PM, you'll have Free time to explore the city, wander the colourful souks, or simply kick back and relax.
It’s not just about what you can give; it’s about what you’ll get in return:
As a volunteer, you’ll be focused on education and teaching, but your own creativity and ideas are just as valuable. You’ll help local women and young girls improve their language skills, boost their confidence, and give them the tools to chase their dreams. Whether you're practising English, running workshops, or simply offering a listening ear. Your effort means the world to these women.
Alongside teaching, you’ll work closely with staff from a local NGO, supporting them and brainstorming ways to create even more positive impact. Whether you're into structure or prefer to tackle things on the fly, your enthusiasm is the key ingredient.
And the best part? You’re not doing this alone. You’ll be working with a local team and maybe a few fellow international volunteers, which makes the experience even more fun and inspiring!
Your day begins with the smell of freshly baked bread and mint tea as you gather with your host family for a warm breakfast. By 8:30 AM, you’re off to your project location, full of energy and ready for the day.
By 9:00 AM, you meet with the local NGO team to discuss the plan for the day. By 10:00 AM, you're diving into your tasks: whether you're teaching, helping women with their language skills, or leading an inspiring workshop. You’ll quickly feel the energy in the room, It’s contagious!
After a morning full of impact and probably a few heartwarming laughs, it’s time for a delicious local lunch to recharge. This will take place around 12:30 PM.
By 2:00 PM, you’re back to it. Maybe you’re brainstorming a new project idea or providing one-on-one support for someone who needs that extra bit of help. By 4:00 PM, your workday wraps up, and it’s time for some well-deserved free time.
What do you do next? It’s totally up to you! Explore the vibrant streets of Rabat, check out the local souks, or simply relax with a good book and some fresh mint tea. By 8:30 PM, you’ll sit down for a delicious dinner with your host family, swapping stories from your day.
You’ll generally work Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:00pm.
You’ll work alongside local staff involved in the project, and possibly with other volunteers.
You’re not required to speak Arabic or French, though we encourage volunteers to learn a few basic words in either language, the kids will absolutely love it!
When you apply, we’ll check if there are any school holidays or public holidays that may affect your placement and discuss those with you.
The Morocco program starts every Monday, and we ask that you arrive in Rabat the day before your chosen start date for pickup. Your accommodation is covered from the Sunday night before your start date until (and including) the Friday night of your end date.
If you arrive one or two days earlier or stay longer, that’s no problem, you’ll just need to pay $50 AUD per night directly to the local team (this includes meals). Please note: extra nights are subject to availability, so make sure to arrange this with our local staff well in advance.
Volunteers are responsible for arranging their own return trip to the airport, but our local team is happy to help you with this.
Volunteers stay either with a local host family or in a shared volunteer house, living alongside Moroccan families and other international volunteers. These families receive part of your program fee to help cover meals, support, and accommodation.
Living with a host family is a fantastic way to experience Moroccan life, meet locals, enjoy traditional food, pick up some of the local language (Darija, the Moroccan Arabic dialect), and be part of everyday customs and traditions.
Accommodation is comfortable, and in most cases, you’ll share a room with one or two other volunteers. Some families may also offer private rooms, depending on availability.
It’s worth noting that Moroccan homes are communal. Sdaders (traditional Moroccan sofas) are used as both beds and seating areas during the day.
In many cases, volunteers can walk to their project placement. If not, we’ll help arrange local transport for you.
If you’ve got a bit of extra space in your bag and would like to bring something for the project, that’s always appreciated. Just check in with us beforehand to find out what items would be most helpful.
You’ll be picked up from the airport when you arrive. After that, you’ll be taken to your accommodation in Rabat and given an overview of the schedule and what to expect over the coming days, including meeting the local team, fellow volunteers, and orientation.
Most of our volunteers arrive by plane. A member of our Moroccan team will meet you at the arrivals hall holding a sign with your name on it.
Note: Once you’ve booked your flights, please send your flight details to Volunteer Worldwide so we can arrange pickup. Make sure you include your flight number and airline, this helps us track any delays and know exactly when to expect you.
Casablanca Airport is about an hour from Rabat. While pickup from Casablanca isn’t included in the program fee, many volunteers choose to fly there due to its wider international flight options (and usually cheaper fares). From there, you can catch a train to Rabat, where our team will meet you at the train station. The journey takes around an hour and costs about 90 DH (roughly $15 AUD). You’ll need to catch a train from Casablanca Airport to either Ain Sebaa, Casa Port or Casa Voyageur station, and then transfer to a train heading to Rabat Ville.
Your orientation will be run by our local coordinator and takes place on the morning of your chosen start date. You’ll receive a full introduction to life in Morocco, including local customs, cultural expectations, safety, travel options, and all the details about your project and placement. It’s also a great opportunity to meet other volunteers and exchange contacts for weekend trips and social catch-ups.
During long weekends, volunteers often take the chance to travel further and explore incredible destinations like Marrakech, the Merzouga Dunes, Tinghir (Ksabah), Fes, Meknes (imperial cities), Volubilis (Roman ruins), Tangier, or even Southern Europe (Gibraltar, Andalusia, Portugal, southern Spain).
Mustapha is the local contact person for this project.
For this project in Morocco, we're looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are passionate about education and the empowerment of women and children. With your contribution, you'll not only help share knowledge but also build cultural connections. This project offers a unique opportunity to get directly involved in community development and support meaningful educational activities.
Passion for Education and Empowerment
We're seeking volunteers who are passionate about supporting women and children in their personal and educational development. Experience is a bonus, but having an open heart and a willingness to learn is even more important.
Creativity and Initiative
This project gives you the freedom to bring your own ideas and initiatives to life. Whether it’s running an inspiring class or leading a creative workshop, your input is always welcome!
Patience and Perseverance
Working with women and children requires understanding and the willingness to take your time. Everyone learns at their own pace, and your patience can make a real difference.
Cultural Sensitivity
Volunteering in Morocco means immersing yourself in a rich culture with unique traditions. Respect and an open mind are essential for working well with the local community and getting the most out of your experience.
Flexibility and Adaptability
Life in Morocco may be different from what you’re used to. A flexible mindset is key to adjusting and making a meaningful contribution.
Strong Communication Skills
Clear and respectful communication is important, both with the women and children and with the local team. Being able to effectively share your ideas and guidance makes a big impact.
Team Spirit
This is a team-based project. You’ll be working side by side with other volunteers and local professionals to achieve shared goals. A positive attitude and collaborative mindset are essential.
As a volunteer, you’ll be involved in a variety of activities from running lessons and supporting local NGOs to organising creative and educational workshops, and providing mentoring for women and children. You’ll play a key role in creating a safe, inspiring learning environment where everyone can thrive.
Outside of your volunteer work, your time in Morocco will be an incredible opportunity to experience the country’s rich culture and famous hospitality. You’ll form lifelong friendships, explore stunning places, and make memories that will stay with you forever.
So, if you're 18 or older, speak English, and feel inspired to make a difference, this project in Morocco could be just what you’re looking for. Let’s make it an adventure you’ll always smile back on!
We completely understand that having your child volunteer overseas can feel like a big step. In fact, it’s often just as exciting for parents as it is for the young person themselves, and sometimes even a little more nerve-racking. That’s why we want to reassure you that your child is in good hands.
Since 2004, we’ve been supporting volunteers and have guided many young people through meaningful international experiences.
We take safety seriously. That begins with carefully selecting our partner organisations, volunteer projects, and host families. Every placement is thoroughly checked to make sure it meets our high standards for safety, support, and ethical practices.
Our experienced and caring local contacts are always there to support volunteers throughout their journey. From clear pre-departure preparation to personal assistance during the project, we’re available to help whenever needed.
We believe strongly in open communication. You're always welcome to contact us with any questions or concerns. We’re here not only for the volunteers, but for their families too.
You can feel confident knowing we are fully committed to creating a safe, supportive, and positive experience. Your child’s wellbeing, safety, and overall happiness are our top priorities.
If there's anything you’d like to ask or talk through, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We're here to support you every step of the way.
