Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s highest peak at 5,895 metres, is one of the world’s most iconic destinations. The Marangu Route, also known as the "Coca-Cola Route," is one of the most popular paths to the summit, thanks to its gradual ascent and comfortable hut accommodations along the way. Although it’s considered one of the easier routes, climbing Kilimanjaro remains physically demanding and a serious challenge.
Upon arriving in Arusha or Moshi, you'll be picked up and taken to your hotel at the foot of Kilimanjaro. The day is all about relaxing, checking your gear, and a thorough briefing on the climb ahead. It’s the perfect time to ask your guide any questions and get mentally prepared for the adventure. After dinner, take it easy and soak in the excitement for the days ahead.
After an early breakfast, you'll be driven to Marangu Gate to begin your trek. Starting at 1,870 metres, you'll hike through lush rainforest, encountering wildlife along the way. After about 4-6 hours of trekking, you'll arrive at Mandara Hut at 2,720 metres, where you’ll spend your first night.
Today, you’ll leave the rainforest behind and enter the moorland, known for its unique vegetation and stunning views. After 6 to 8 hours of climbing, you’ll reach Horombo Hut at 3,720 metres for an overnight stay.
A crucial day for acclimatisation, you’ll do a short hike to Zebra Rocks at 4,000 metres. This helps your body adjust to the altitude, setting you up for success in the days ahead.
Today, the climb continues through the alpine desert, where the air gets thinner. After several hours of trekking, you’ll arrive at Kibo Hut at 4,700 metres, your last stop before attempting the summit.
The toughest but most rewarding day of the climb. Around midnight, you'll begin your ascent to Uhuru Peak (5,895 metres), Africa's highest point. After reaching the summit and soaking in the unforgettable views, you'll descend back to Kibo Hut for rest, before continuing to Horombo Hut.
On the final day, you’ll trek down to Marangu Gate, where you’ll receive your certificate for successfully completing the climb. Then, it’s back to Arusha or Moshi to wrap up your incredible adventure.
