This community project offers an incredible local experience while also supporting the local people, with 14 days (minimum) packed with meaningful activities. It’s not a holiday, but... it’s in Bali, so there's still a holiday vibe! From sunrise to sunset, you’ll be with quality people, great food, and be having tons of fun.
Each of the projects has a real purpose. Here are the options:
With this project in NW Bali, we’ll work with you to fill your volunteer days with unique memories and unexpected surprises, helping local kids and farmers. Come experience it for yourself!
Teaching:
Morning lessons (8:00am to 11:00am) are only for toddlers, as children aged 6 to 12 attend regular school. Teens have lessons around 4:00pm.
Farming activities run from 7:30am to 10:00am or 4:00pm to 6:00pm.
Cooking classes for mothers are held once a week at around 4:00pm.
Art classes are held twice a week (4:00pm to 6:00pm) and can even take place on the beach.
There will also be fun days with the kids: beach days, sunset hikes to the hills, or movie nights with pizza making.
You’ll be working alongside other volunteers and local community members.
It’s important that you speak at least basic English. If you know a few words of Indonesian, that’s always appreciated but definitely not a requirement.
This project runs all year round, so volunteers are welcome any time.
We offer shared rooms with two bunk beds for volunteers.
Meals are provided, but if you prefer to cook for yourself, the kitchen is available to use.
A BBQ is available on weekends. Just bring your own beers or wine.
Laundry: We take your clothes to the local laundry to support the village economy. Volunteers get up to two items washed per day free of charge.
Many of the project locations are within walking distance. If they’re further away, Dessy will organise transport.
If you’ve got a bit of extra room in your bag and would like to bring something for the project, it’s hugely appreciated. Just check in with us first to find out what’s most helpful to bring.
The trip from the airport to the village takes about four hours by car. The transport cost is approximately IDR 750,000 and is included in your weekly fee.
Check out the optional trips and experiences you can do in your spare time. We’ve got some truly amazing excursions lined up. And since you’re already in such a stunning part of the world, it would be a shame not to explore a bit more of it.
Dessy is your contact person for this project in beautiful Bali.
Originally from Borneo, Dessy has lived in Bali since 2011. She was previously an IT Business Advisor and award-winning sales champ at IBM, but has always had a passion for visual arts, education and community development.
Before the pandemic, she lived in Uluwatu, but last year she moved to this village to work with an American scientist on the “Biosphere 2” mega project. After spending just a few months here, she saw how poor and underdeveloped the local economic and social conditions were. Leaving her job to build a free education centre was the best decision she’s made. Aimed at creating a brighter future for the children of this village and helping local farmers break the cycle of poverty through meaningful support and values.
For this project, we’re looking for volunteers with a passion for community development and education. People who are keen to give back to the Balinese community and truly experience the real Bali.
Passion for Community Support:
A genuine desire to help is essential. Experience in education, healthcare, or social work is a bonus but absolutely not required. Wanting to help is what matters most.
Initiative and Proactiveness:
Being able to work independently and take initiative is really helpful. You’ll be organising and running activities and coming up with creative solutions when challenges arise.
Patience and Empathy:
Understanding and patience are important, especially when working with children and vulnerable groups.
Cultural Sensitivity:
Respecting and understanding local customs and traditions is vital. Being open and willing to learn from the local culture is key.
Flexibility and Adaptability:
Working in Bali means adapting to different physical and work conditions. Flexibility is important.
Communication Skills:
Good communication is essential when working with local staff and community members.
Team Spirit:
Teamwork is everything. A positive attitude and willingness to collaborate with local staff and volunteers from all walks of life is crucial.
As a volunteer, you’ll support a range of community projects such as teaching, health education, and improving local infrastructure.
Your time in Bali will offer personal and professional growth, cultural discovery, and unforgettable experiences.
If you’re passionate about supporting communities and working with diverse groups, and you’re ready to contribute in a challenging but rewarding setting, then this community project in Bali is the perfect fit for you. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the quality of life for the local people.
We completely understand that having your child volunteer overseas can feel like a big step. In fact, it’s often just as exciting for parents as it is for the young person themselves, and sometimes even a little more nerve-racking. That’s why we want to reassure you that your child is in good hands.
Since 2004, we’ve been supporting volunteers and have guided many young people through meaningful international experiences.
We take safety seriously. That begins with carefully selecting our partner organisations, volunteer projects, and host families. Every placement is thoroughly checked to make sure it meets our high standards for safety, support, and ethical practices.
Our experienced and caring local contacts are always there to support volunteers throughout their journey. From clear pre-departure preparation to personal assistance during the project, we’re available to help whenever needed.
We believe strongly in open communication. You're always welcome to contact us with any questions or concerns. We’re here not only for the volunteers, but for their families too.
You can feel confident knowing we are fully committed to creating a safe, supportive, and positive experience. Your child’s wellbeing, safety, and overall happiness are our top priorities.
If there's anything you’d like to ask or talk through, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We're here to support you every step of the way.
Warm regards,
The Volunteer Worldwide Team
