You arrive in a vibrant Moroccan town, where the sun warms the streets and the scent of fresh spices drifts through the air. You’ve just landed an incredible opportunity, to make a real difference in the lives of local children from underprivileged neighbourhoods. Together with an amazing team, you’ll be dreaming up fun, creative activities that brighten their world.
At this childcare project, it’s all about enriching kids' lives through creativity and joy. You'll be the one bringing the energy! Whether you’re dancing to upbeat tunes, getting playful with colourful toys, or making everyone laugh during a mini theatre moment, you’ll be blending learning and fun in the best possible way.
But that’s just the beginning! You might help open up a world of language through books and stories, teach them new words, or let their imaginations run wild with paint and brushes. You’ll be free to explore what the kids need, come up with your own ideas, and experiment with new ways to help them learn and grow. You’re creating a space where every child feels safe, seen, and inspired.
Every single day is packed with moments of wonder, laughter, and growth. And the best part? You’re genuinely making an impact. These kids will walk away with new skills and beautiful memories that stay with them for years to come.
As a volunteer at the childcare project in Morocco, you’re the creative force bringing joy and learning to the kids! From music and dancing to painting and drawing, you’ll come up with fun, engaging activities that help them express themselves and develop important life skills.
Whether it’s sharing a storybook, playing with toys, or leading a group game, you’ll be doing more than just entertaining. You’ll be helping them grow, gain confidence, and discover the world around them.
You're given the freedom to bring your own ideas to life! Alongside local staff and fellow volunteers, you’ll help build a bright, cheerful environment where the children can feel safe, smile wide, and simply be kids.
A typical day at the childcare project starts early, but the warm welcome from your host family and a solid Moroccan brekkie gets you going. Around 8:30am, you’ll head to your project site and kick off at 9:00am with the team.
You might start with something fun to get everyone moving like a dance session or a creative art activity to fire up their imagination. Throughout the day, you’ll support wherever needed, help guide the activities, and create a positive, playful space for the kids.
At around 12:30pm, it’s time for a well-earned lunch break, and then you’ll dive into more activities in the afternoon, from games that build cognitive skills to quiet reading time with colourful picture books.
By 4:00pm, the workday wraps up, and your evening is free to soak up the local culture, wander the streets, or chill out and recharge. You’ll end your day with a relaxed dinner and chats with your host family, which will soon start to feel like your second home.
From 9:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.
You’ll work alongside local project staff and possibly other volunteers.
Speaking Arabic or French is not required. However, we encourage volunteers to learn as many words as possible in Arabic or French.
When you apply, we will always check whether there are school holidays or national celebrations during your placement. We’ll discuss these with you beforehand.
The Morocco program starts every Monday. We ask that you arrive in Rabat the day before your chosen start date for airport pickup. Accommodation is provided from the Sunday night before your start date to (and including) the Friday night of your final week.
If you arrive a day or two earlier or depart later than these dates, that’s fine. However, you’ll need to pay $50 AUD per extra night directly to the local staff (this includes meals). Please note: extra nights are subject to availability, so it’s important to arrange them in advance with our local team.
Volunteers are responsible for organising their own return to the airport, but our local staff will gladly assist you.
Volunteers stay either with a host family or in program accommodation, sharing a home with a local family and possibly other volunteers. These families receive financial support through your program fee to help with food and housing.
Staying with a family is a fantastic way to immerse yourself in Moroccan culture, meet locals, eat traditional food, speak the local language (Darija, Moroccan Arabic dialect), and experience local customs and traditions.
Accommodation is comfortable across all host families and volunteer housing. Volunteers typically share a room with one or two others. In some host families, volunteers have their own private rooms.
It’s important to note that Moroccan homes often have shared living areas where Sdader (Moroccan sofas) are used for both sleeping and lounging during the day.
Volunteers can often walk to their project. If that’s not possible, we’ll arrange transport for you.
If you have some extra space in your luggage and would like to bring something for the project, it would be greatly appreciated. Please check in with us about what items would be most helpful.
We’ll pick you up from the airport. Once you’ve been collected, you’ll be taken to your accommodation in Rabat. There, you’ll be informed about the upcoming days, meet other volunteers and staff, and receive your orientation.
Most volunteers arrive by plane. You will be met at Rabat Airport by a member of our Moroccan team, holding a sign with your name.
Note: As soon as you’ve booked your flight, please let Volunteer Worldwide know your flight number and airline. This is important in case of delays so our team knows when to expect you.
Casablanca Airport is about an hour’s drive from Rabat. While airport pickup from Casablanca is not included in the program fee, many volunteers choose to fly there due to more flight options and often lower prices. From there, you can take a train to Rabat, where you’ll be picked up at the train station by a member of our local team.
The train ride takes about one hour and costs approximately 90 DH (around $15 AUD).
You should take the train from Casablanca Airport to Ain Sebaa, Casa Port, or Casa Voyageurs station, and then transfer to the train toward Rabat Ville.
Orientation is provided by our local contact person and begins on the morning of your chosen start date. It covers everything you need to know about your volunteer program in Morocco, including an introduction to Moroccan culture, customs, rules and expectations, safety, travel opportunities, your project placement, and more.
It’s also a great chance to meet fellow volunteers and exchange contact information for weekend trips and social activities.
On long weekends, volunteers can travel to exciting destinations such as Marrakech, the dunes of Merzouga, Tinghir (Ksabah), Fes, Meknes (imperial cities), Volubilis (Roman ruins), Tangier, or even southern Europe (Gibraltar, Andalusia, Portugal, southern Spain).
Mustapha is the local contact for this project.
For this project, we’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers who have a passion for working with children and who want to contribute to their development. You’re someone who enjoys spending time with kids, is creative, and always looking for new ways to combine fun and learning. Whether you have experience in childcare, education, or a related field, your energy and enthusiasm are what matter most!
We are looking for volunteers who are at least 18 years old and who can speak and understand English well. You don’t need to speak Arabic or French, but we do encourage you to learn a few words. The children will love it! Flexibility and a positive attitude are essential, as you’ll be working in a dynamic and sometimes unpredictable environment. You should have respect for the local culture and customs and be open to adapting to Moroccan ways of life.
Are you ready to make a difference in the lives of children in Morocco and open yourself up to a new culture? Then you’re exactly the kind of volunteer we’re looking for!
Interested in working with children:
We’re looking for volunteers who are passionate about supporting children in their personal and educational development. Experience is a bonus, but an open heart and a willingness to learn are even more important.
Creativity and Initiative:
This project gives you space to bring in your own ideas and initiatives. Whether it's organising an inspiring lesson or developing creative workshops, your input is always welcome!
Patience and Perseverance:
Working with children requires empathy and a willingness to take your time. Every child learns at their own pace, and your patience can truly make a difference.
Cultural Sensitivity:
Working in Morocco means immersing yourself in a rich culture with unique traditions. Respect and an open attitude are essential to collaborate effectively with locals and to get the most out of your experience.
Flexibility and Adaptability:
The pace and conditions in Morocco can differ from what you're used to. A flexible mindset is important to adapt and contribute meaningfully.
Strong Communication Skills:
Clear communication both with the children and local staff is important to effectively share your ideas and provide guidance.
Team Spirit:
Teamwork is at the heart of this project. You'll be working closely with other volunteers and local professionals to achieve shared goals. A positive attitude and team-oriented mindset are essential.
What can you expect? An unforgettable experience where you’ll not only impact the lives of children but grow as a person, too. You'll work in a dynamic, creative team where your ideas are valued and where you'll develop new skills. You'll become part of a warm community, immerse yourself in Moroccan culture, and have the opportunity to grow both personally and professionally. On top of that, it’s a fantastic chance to make new friends, create lasting memories, and leave a meaningful mark on the lives of the children you support.
We completely understand that having your child volunteer overseas can feel like a big step. In fact, it’s often just as exciting for parents as it is for the young person themselves, and sometimes even a little more nerve-racking. That’s why we want to reassure you that your child is in good hands.
Since 2004, we’ve been supporting volunteers and have guided many young people through meaningful international experiences.
We take safety seriously. That begins with carefully selecting our partner organisations, volunteer projects, and host families. Every placement is thoroughly checked to make sure it meets our high standards for safety, support, and ethical practices.
Our experienced and caring local contacts are always there to support volunteers throughout their journey. From clear pre-departure preparation to personal assistance during the project, we’re available to help whenever needed.
We believe strongly in open communication. You're always welcome to contact us with any questions or concerns. We’re here not only for the volunteers, but for their families too.
You can feel confident knowing we are fully committed to creating a safe, supportive, and positive experience. Your child’s wellbeing, safety, and overall happiness are our top priorities.
If there's anything you’d like to ask or talk through, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We're here to support you every step of the way.
Warm regards,
