This project in Morocco is all about language learning with a creative twist. You’ll help children, teens, or adults learn a new language (and maybe pick up a few Arabic words yourself - shukran!). From tutoring and homework help to organising educational games, your efforts make learning fun and accessible for the local community.
You’ll work in community centres where your enthusiasm for learning is contagious and you won’t be on your own! Together with other international volunteers, you’ll create an inspiring and friendly atmosphere. Combine this with the hospitality of a local host family, colourful markets, and the magic of Morocco, and you have an experience you won’t forget. Whether you're a born teacher or just looking for an adventure with impact, this project has it all!
As a volunteer in this language teaching project in Morocco, you'll play a key role in the education and personal development of children, teens, and adults. The goal is to provide the local community with access to affordable language courses and help them improve their language skills. Whether for school, work, or personal growth.
What will you do?
The tasks are varied and tailored to the needs of the community centre where you’re working. Some examples include:
With a varied schedule, engaging conversations, and the chance to make a real impact, this volunteer work in Morocco is an experience you won't forget.
You’ll be volunteering from 9:00am to 4:00pm, Monday to Friday.
You’ll work alongside project staff and possibly other volunteers.
Speaking Arabic or French is not required, but we do encourage volunteers to learn as many words as possible in either language.
When you apply, we will check whether your chosen dates fall during school holidays or local public holidays and discuss this with you in advance.
The Morocco program starts every Monday. We ask that you arrive in Rabat the day before your chosen start date for airport pickup. Accommodation is included from the Sunday night before your start date through to the Friday night of your final week.
If you arrive or depart one or two days outside of these dates, that’s totally fine. However, you’ll need to pay $50 AUD per night directly to the local team (this includes meals). Please note that additional nights are subject to availability, so it’s important to make arrangements in advance with our local staff.
Volunteers are responsible for organising their own return travel to the airport, but our local staff will be happy to help.
Volunteers stay either with a host family or in program accommodation, sharing with a local family and other volunteers. These families receive a contribution from your program fee to help with meals and accommodation.
Living with a host family is a great way to immerse yourself in Moroccan life, meet local people, eat traditional food, practise the language (Darija-the Moroccan Arabic dialect), and take part in local customs.
Accommodation is comfortable in both host families and volunteer housing. Volunteers usually share a room with one or two others, but some host families may offer a private room.
It’s worth noting that Moroccan homes often have shared living areas where couches (Sdader) are used for both sitting during the day and sleeping at night.
Most volunteers can walk to their project. If the distance is too far, we’ll help arrange transport.
If you’ve got a bit of extra space in your bag and would like to bring something for the project, it would be hugely appreciated. Just check in with us beforehand so we can recommend useful and appropriate items.
You’ll be picked up from the airport. Once collected, you’ll be taken to your accommodation in Rabat and briefed on what to expect over the coming days, including meeting staff, volunteers, and your orientation.
Most volunteers arrive by plane. A member of our Moroccan team will meet you in the arrivals area holding a sign with your name. Once your flights are booked, please inform Volunteer Worldwide so we can arrange your pickup. Your flight number and airline are important, especially in case of delays, so our team knows when to expect you.
Casablanca Airport is around an hour from Rabat. While pickup from Casablanca isn’t included in the program fee, many volunteers choose to fly there as it offers more international flight options and is often cheaper. From there, you can take a train to Rabat, where you’ll be picked up at the train station by a local staff member. The train ride takes about an hour and costs around 90 dirhams (approx. $15 AUD). You can board the train at Casablanca Airport and transfer at Ain Sebaa, Casa Port or Casa Voyageur station to catch a train to Rabat Ville.
Orientation is led by our local coordinator and takes place on the morning of your chosen start date. It covers everything you need to know about volunteering in Morocco, including an introduction to the country, cultural customs, rules and expectations, safety, travel opportunities, and details about your project and placement. It’s also a great opportunity to meet other volunteers and swap contact details for weekend trips and social outings.
On long weekends, volunteers often travel to destinations such as Marrakech, the Merzouga dunes, Tinghir (Ksabah), Fes, Meknes (imperial cities), Volubilis (Roman ruins), Tangier, or even Southern Europe (Gibraltar, Andalusia, Portugal, or southern Spain).
Mustapha is the project coordinator in Morocco.
For this project in Morocco, we're looking for enthusiastic volunteers who are keen to support children’s education. Your contribution not only helps to share knowledge but also builds bridges between cultures. The project offers a unique opportunity to be directly involved in the development of local communities and to contribute to valuable educational activities.
A Passion for Education
We’re looking for volunteers who are passionate about supporting children in their personal and educational development. Experience is a bonus, but having an open heart and a willingness to learn is even more important.
Creativity and Initiative
This project encourages your own ideas and input. Whether it’s organising an inspiring lesson or developing creative workshops, your contribution is always welcome.
Patience and Perseverance
Working with women and children requires understanding and a willingness to take your time. Everyone learns at their own pace, and your patience can truly make a difference.
Cultural Sensitivity
Volunteering in Morocco means immersing yourself in a rich culture with unique traditions. Respect and an open attitude are essential to work effectively with the local community and to get the most out of your experience.
Flexibility and Adaptability
Things in Morocco can move at a different pace than you might be used to. Being flexible and adaptable will help you adjust and contribute in a meaningful way.
Strong Communication Skills
Clear communication with children, women, and local staff is important to effectively share your ideas and guidance.
Team Spirit
Teamwork is at the heart of this project. You’ll be working alongside other volunteers and local professionals towards shared goals. A positive attitude and team-focused mindset are essential.
As a volunteer, you’ll be involved in a variety of activities such as teaching lessons, supporting local NGOs, organising creative and educational workshops, and mentoring children. You’ll play a key role in creating a safe, inspiring learning environment where everyone has the chance to thrive.
Outside of your volunteer work, your time in Morocco will offer you a chance to experience the country’s rich culture and warm hospitality. You’ll form unforgettable friendships, explore stunning places, and create memories that will last a lifetime.
So, are you 18 or older, speak English, and feel called to make a difference? Then this project in Morocco is exactly what you’re looking for. Together, we’ll create an adventure you’ll always look back on with a smile.
We completely understand that having your child volunteer overseas can feel like a big step. In fact, it’s often just as exciting for parents as it is for the young person themselves, and sometimes even a little more nerve-racking. That’s why we want to reassure you that your child is in good hands.
Since 2004, we’ve been supporting volunteers and have guided many young people through meaningful international experiences.
We take safety seriously. That begins with carefully selecting our partner organisations, volunteer projects, and host families. Every placement is thoroughly checked to make sure it meets our high standards for safety, support, and ethical practices.
Our experienced and caring local contacts are always there to support volunteers throughout their journey. From clear pre-departure preparation to personal assistance during the project, we’re available to help whenever needed.
We believe strongly in open communication. You're always welcome to contact us with any questions or concerns. We’re here not only for the volunteers, but for their families too.
You can feel confident knowing we are fully committed to creating a safe, supportive, and positive experience. Your child’s wellbeing, safety, and overall happiness are our top priorities.
If there's anything you’d like to ask or talk through, please don’t hesitate to reach out. We're here to support you every step of the way.
Warm regards,
