General Information

Make a meaningful difference while discovering the real Vietnam! This grassroots community project was set up to support local people and offers you, as a volunteer, the unique opportunity to truly experience Vietnamese culture. You’ll be based in the Thot Not region, in the north of Can Tho city, near the Cambodian border.

One of the most rewarding aspects of this project is its diversity. No two days are the same, and you can contribute in many different ways, depending on your interests and strengths.

You might:

  • Help distribute food at the local hospital.
  • Support English language lessons.
  • Lend a hand on local farms or assist in building and repairing small bridges and roads.
  • Share your own talents, whether it’s music, sport, art or dance with the local community.

You'll be helping where it's needed most, and becoming part of the community in the process. This is your chance to experience Vietnam from the inside, something most tourists never get to do.

Free Time

During your time off, you’ll be able to explore the peaceful countryside by foot or bike. Enjoy the scenic rice fields, fruit orchards and visit cultural highlights such as:

  • The Cai Rang Floating Market, the largest in the Mekong Delta.
  • The Gian Gua Temple.
  • Con Son Island in Can Tho.

A True Cultural Exchange

This project aims to build a meaningful connection between volunteers and local people. With a friendly community, fresh air, relaxing landscapes and delicious local food, we believe you’ll walk away with an unforgettable experience of life in southern Vietnam.

Vrijwilligerswerk in Vietnam community project

Volunteer Tasks

Because this project is flexible, you can get involved in the areas where you feel most comfortable. Tasks may include:

  • Teaching English.
  • Helping distribute meals at the local hospital.
  • Playing games or supporting activities in a local aged care centre.
  • Assisting with repairs to roads, bridges or homes.
  • Working in the rice fields.
  • Contributing your own ideas and skills. Creativity and initiative are always welcome!

A Typical Workday:

As each volunteer’s contribution is tailored to their interests and the community’s needs, no two days will be exactly the same. Generally, you’ll volunteer from Monday to Friday, with the option to join activities on Saturdays. Typical hours are:

  • 8:00am to 11:30am.
  • 1:30pm to 5:00pm.

Ik ben 6 maanden solo gaan reizen door Zuid-Oost Azië. Omdat ik het best spannend vond om alleen te gaan besloot ik dat ik eerst 2 maanden vrijwilligerswerk wilde gaan doen.
